Struggling day as firsts suffer defeat

Chris Johnson

First loss in three matches

Battling innings from Roberts & Randall

In spite of battling innings from Dave Roberts (pictured on Saturday) and Charlie Randall the 1s slipped to a disappointing defeat by six wickets to West Herts 2s.
It came after excellent wins in the previous two weeks.
Accurate pace bowling especially saw the innings subside and it was only thanks to Roberts 32 and Randall 20 that they reached a final total of 97.
There was then a glimmer of hope as Randall 2 for 28 bagged two wickets in successive deliveries and Gareth Jones bowled a mean spell of 1 for 6 in six overs that had the visitors 44 for 4.
But they then moved on serenely to a comfortable win.

Fungs up! Lewis fires 2s to victory on debut
Under 16 Lewis Fung marked his debut in the second team with a match winning 4 for 16 that lifted them back to second place in the league.
As well as his bowling feat he hit a crucial 11 including a huge six with a vital last wicket partnership with Jo Hibbins that proved crucial in a win by only nine runs.
On a difficult batting wicket they finished with 140 all out. Mark Winchester hit a quick 26, Matt Hutchinson in his first game of the season a big hitting 34 and Rob Slack a hard worked 25.
Abe Gibson 2 for 27 and Saicharal Nandyala 3 for 25 had the hosts struggling, but then at 115 for 5 were seemingly en route to winning. That was until young Lewis Fungal wreaked havoc before the added pace of Hibbins completed the win, bowling them out for 131.

Max's 48 the bright spark in 3s defeat
Max Heath hit an impressive 48 in the 3s 97-run defeat against St Margaretsbury 3s.
After Ryan Ellis 4 for 34 had the visitors 26 for 3 they pressed on to finish with a substantial 255 for 9.
In reply Max Heath held the innings together but with wickets falling a late order burst from Kajanan Rajasingam 29 and Ellis 19 lifted them to end on 158 all out.

Leroy & Nick best efforts for 4s
The 4s were well beaten by nine wickets at Hitchin 7s only managing 105.
That was in spite of the efforts of Leroy Van Der Westhuizen 20 and Nick Pain 25.
